My buffalo skull was found in the Badlands of North Dakota, and was presented to me as a gift from a good friend. It displays my leather crafts and bead work that I create. It sit near me about 5 feet away in my office as I work on the computer each day. I honor the spirit of the buffalo and its life.

We all have favorite places in this world to go to. I get grounded at Ellsworth Rock Garden that was built by Jack Ellsworth. It is now a historical tourist attraction in Voyageurs National Park at Kabetogama Lake. It can only be accessed by water, in the beautiful wilderness of northern Minnesota. BTW, I hear the fishing is good.

McCain looks like he is not the healthiest man around and let's face it, if John McCain died ( as president), Sarah Palin would be the first woman president in US history. Visited Mom at Kabetogama Labor Day weekend

My son Jesse Lehto & his daughter Bailey Rose and I went to visit my mom, Della Lehto, over the Labor Day weekend. It was a treat to us all to be in God's country again, where I grew up. Mom still lives in the house that my dad, Tony built, before I was born. (The yard is like a little park all on it's own.) So, we really enjoyed being outdoors most of the time, and kept a fire going in the fire pit from morning till night. We got the branchs all burned up, that mom had in piles and then some. I wanted to get pictures of the sunset at Woodenfrog State Campground, (named after chief Woodenfrog). We spent about 3 hours there. First we walked on the rock cliff nature trails through the enchanted forest along the shore line of Kabetogama Lake, and walked all through the park. It brought back many good memories as we visited and recalled earlier times of camping, fishing, swimming, and cooking outdoors. All the while, we were creating new memories, that Bailey (3 1/2) will have, too. We stopped to build a fire in a pit on Woodenfrog point, which is so beautiful, and climbed on the grant rocks and took lots of pictures. Jesse will take Bailey camping there when she's older. As the sun was going down we walked through the old part of the campground where we use to camp. (Campers have to set up camp in the new part of the park, since Voyageur National Park came in to being. And, the new camping area is very lovely too, but not the same.) We made it down to the sandy beach in time to watch the sun set, while Bailey played in the lake and in the sand. This picture that I took on 8/31/08, has a breaded face in the gray clouds, that showed in several other pictures taken by Jesse and myself. To me, it is the face of God! It is so hard to leave the Kabetogama wilderness and return to Fargo. We were suprised when we got to mom's, because my daughter Nikki, her husband Chris, and their daugther Aubrey (Westcott) were there visiting from Ada, MN. They had hid their car behind the garage even, so we didn't know they were there till we went in the house. That was a nice suprise! And, Nikki brought a puppy with for us to love. The Westcotts left after supper to go to International Falls to visit family there. And, we went visited relatives that live near by. So, I had a fantasic mini vacation, and enjoyed being with mom. Thanks mom!

Recently I created a new web page or 'lens' on Squidoo, about Kabetogama, the wilderness where I grew up. It is titled "The Wilderness Is Home". Kabetogama Lake is one of four major lakes that make up Voyageur National Park in Northern Minnesota, and is the gateway to the park. Kabetogama Lake has 25,000 areces of deep cool waters and about 200 islands. It has been called God's country by many, including myself. I take a walk down memory-lane at http://www.squidoo.com/kabetogama with my readers, and share some of my wilderness experiences. Growing up with black bears, wolves, moose, white tail deer, eagles, and many other creatures in the enchanted forests I still call home. As a family we use to go camping on islands and go fishing for dinner. We usually ended up with Walleye dinnrs, that we cooked campfire style. When I was older I would go camping with just me and my German Shepard. I was never afraid in the wilderness, but believe me if you don't keep your bearings and know the lay of the land, you can end up doing a lot of extra hiking. There are a few things a person needs to know when exploreing a vast wilderness, survial is one of them. Kabetogama is the land of the Lady Slipper where the Minnesota State flower grows wild and is sometimes in large supply. It is too bad that visiters to the area seem to think it is ok to dig these beautiful flowers up and transplant them in their yards. There is Woodenfrog State Campground located at Kabetogama Lake that is one of most beautiful forested campgrounds I have ever seen. I've done a lot of camping there and enjoyed the sandy beach and swims. I am looking forward to going to visit my mom soon.

Fargo High Flight Kite Command

We had a great Saturday on the 9th, for flying kites and had two new people join our command, who will be an asset to the club. Lou, who is a talk show host for 96.3 FM in our local area joined up with his beautiful predator bird kite, that looked like a real bird in the air. And, another Lou, who said he would have a kite making seminar to teach our club how to make kites. Some of our members having been wanting to make their own kites, because of the expense when you get into large and huge kites. That, will be wonderful for all of us to learn together and grow our kite flying community. We knew it was going to be a great day for flying and connections, and it was. We had plenty of color in the air, and it reminded some people miles away that we were flying kites, when they seen the kites, and can to join, thanks Wonda and sons for joining once again. All in all, it was one of our best days yet. We had a collage student join us who is a natural at flying stunt kites, and we were so impressed by her talent, and that is not an easy kite to fly by any means. Mary Beth, we look forward to watching you fly! Thanks to Paul for bringing that featured guest and showing us a few tricks. Bill, Will, & Alex LaVelle (pictured), thank you for joining in the fun and contributing to our enjoyment. And, for the neighborhood children that came to explore the thrills of kite flying with us. It's always a reward to see children flying a kite, weather it is a small one or a huge one. We will always let the kids try out our kites and join in on the fun, that's what it's all about.

Tipi's Review of "North Country Nights"

"North Country Nights" by Daniel San Souci, is a beautifully illustrated book for children, with wintry wooded scenes of animals in the shadows of the night. Each page contains copies of paintings done in watercolors on 140 lbs. cold press paper, which gives the pages texture. The story explains the habits of different creatures of the night. There is a horned owl flying above the pine trees with a snowy cabin down below. Also, paintings of a coyote, a fox, a mountain lion, porcupine, cotton tail, bobcat, beaver, weasel, raccoon, otter, a mule deer, and the lighted cabin by the lake. The night forest scenes remind me of my childhood days growing up in Northern Minnesota. The book was created in memory of Daniel's father. Very nicely done Daniel!

CCleaner Review

I downloaded CCleaner onto my computer on 7-25-08. I have used it for 5 days now and have found that, the performance of my computer has improved each time I've used it (5 times), and I have had no problems. It especially helps to remove tracking cookies from my computer that I get from some Web-sites that I visit. Those tracking cookies slow down my 56k connection and make surfing the Web a less pleasurable experience. So, in short I will continue to use CCleaner! And, it's FREE to download at PCMag.com, which I found through my iGoogle.com account. Thank you to the makers of CCleaner.com!

Review of the book "Whales Passing"

When my granddaughter found her new book "Whales Passing" today, her eyes got bigger as she, 'owed and awed' at the picture on the cover. I promised I would read it to her at nap time and I did. "Whales Passing" was written by Eve Bunting. I think Eve did an exceptional job of writing, because she not only used her book to teach & educate children about Orca-whales, but she expressed herself in this book in such preponderance. I got the feeling that Eve lived the book before she wrote it. Eve takes you to the side of a cliff where you speak within yourself of this experience of seeing whales-passing. Something you would remember often or even write a book about it. There is not a lot of writing on each page. Actually, you could read it quite quickly! Children don't need to hear long stories as long as the illustrations tell their own. "Whales Passing" was illustrated by Lambert Davis, who did 'beautiful works of art' on 31 pages. Turning a page brings you to a whole new scene with these killer whales-passing in the cold blue water. As an artist, I appreciate being able to feel what an illustration is expressing. The Blue Sky Press an imprint of Scholastic Inc. printed "Whales Passing". Bailey Rose loved the story as I read and enjoyed the beautiful pictures as much as I did. It didn't take her long to fall asleep for her nap after hearing and seeing this story book unfold to it's End!

I recently have been spending time with Melvin Lambert a seasoned kite flier from Virgina. He is visiting Fargo ND and was going down I-94 looking for a place to fly his huge orange kite. He seen a kite in the air and took the next exit and went a few blocks and found Bert's big fish in the air. Melvin has since joined the Fargo High Flying Kite Command while in town. He has shown our kite club tips & tricks that we appreciate so much. Marina Lambert is in Fargo for the State Wrestling Championships at the FargoDome this week. She is #1 in the US in her class. She has joined us in kite flying adventures with her dad. You can Google her and read about her Judo and Wrestling accomplishments. She is a remarkable 16 year old.

I've been working on "lens pages" on Squidoo.com for fairly a short time now, and find it user friendly. With sometime and love and care, I've been able to create somethings to publish on the net. I hope to call myself a lens- master one day, but I've got to put in the work first. I must say that it gets addicting building lens.

The Poles

The poles were 36 feet long and the teepee was 27 feet high, so there were 9 feet of pole sticking out the top. We tied pink ribbons to the ends of each pole. Some of the neighbors liked that because they could easily see which way the wind was blowing by the ribbons. It looked nice! The first time we got the teepee set up, well, we didn't have it staked down yet and we went inside to take a brake and eat. A gust of wind came up and caught the huge canvas and blew the whole thing down. We waited till the next day to do it all over again. It was good practice and each time we took it down for maintenance, we got better and faster at setting it up again.

One Beautiful Night

The darkness and coolness of the night surrounded the teepee as the moon gave off it's light.

The glow of the fire inside lite up the teepee at night, while inside it was nice and warm and comfortable. A unforgettable camping experience to be sure. If pictures can tell a story, this one does just that!

When we first started out with this adventure, we didn't know too much about regulating the smoke flaps, but we soon learned. Controlling the flaps and the wind are important to learn. We got smoked out more then once and needed to go outside to get fresh air till the smoke cleared out. The shampoo suds in our hair would be gray the next day. I'm not kidding! But, that wasn't the usual case, the smoke goes right out the top when all things are working right. In fact, most of the time it was ok to just have the flaps wide open. When it rained, that was a different story!
